The Administrative Residency Program at Johns Hopkins Bayview Medical Center is an 11-month program designed for individuals seeking to prepare for a career in health management and to assume leadership positions in the healthcare delivery system. The program is open to students who are enrolled in an accredited master's program in health administration, business administration or public health that requires a one-year residency as a condition of gradution or applicants who meet the criteria and have been selected for an interview for the Johns Hopkins Medicine Fellowship Program (see www.hopkinsmedicine.org/adminfellowship/overview for details of the JHM Fellowship Program).
The residency program is tailored to meet the needs and interests of individual residents. It is structured to provide experiential learning in an academic medical center environment within departmental rotations for varying lengths of time over the year. Residents actively participate in projects in the acute hospital, long-term care facility and physician practice operations; meet with organizational leaders; and learn organizational skills. They also are involved in at least two organization-wide initiatives over the course of the year.

The resident will learn administrative and leadership skills, such as fostering team cohesion, motivation of staff, creation of an environment of continuous quality improvement, project coordination, effective communication, problem solving, customer service skills/service excellence and project management.
