 Biography

Carmen received a BS in dietetics from James Madison University, a MS degree in community health education from Towson University, and completed her dietetic internship at the Johns Hopkins Hospital.  Carmen has focused her career on health promotion, disease prevention, and weight management. 

She joined the staff at Johns Hopkins Bayview (JHBMC) in 1999 as a dietitian specializing in weight management counseling and bariatric surgery education.  She has served as both the program manager of the Johns Hopkins Weight Management Center and the director of nutrition education at JHBMC.

Carmen has been named Outstanding Dietitian of the Year by the Maryland Dietetic Association and JHBMC Clinical Director of the Year.  She has appeared in local newscasts and has contributed to numerous consumer publications on the topics of weight management and bariatric surgery, including nutrition articles in Fitness and Better Homes and Gardens. 

Carmen has been a co-investigator of several research studies that have been published in the Journal of the American Dietetic Association.
