Biography

A native of Baltimore, Dr. Shermak earned her medical degree from the Johns Hopkins School of Medicine and was the first to finish a combined residency program in general and plastic surgery at the Johns Hopkins Hospital. She is a Fellow of the American College of Surgeons, Board Certified in Plastic Surgery, and is an active member in the American Society of Plastic Surgery (ASPS), the American Society of Aesthetic Plastic Surgery (ASAPS), and the Plastic Surgery Research Council (PSRC).

After completing her plastic surgery training, Dr. Shermak went on to pursue further specialized training in aesthetic, breast, and body contouring surgery under the direction of Dr. G. Patrick Maxwell in Nashville. There she learned the latest techniques in body contouring surgery, including: liposuction; body lifts; and facial rejuvenation surgery, including laser resurfacing, facial peels, endoscopic surgery, and facelifts. Dr. Shermak has become nationally known for her work with body lifting procedures and work with surgical weight loss patients. She is on the national Bariatric Task Force of the ASPS and has authored many publications on the topic of body contouring for massive weight loss, particularly focusing on safety issues.
