Biography Dr. Varsha Vaidya has worked in the department of psychiatry since 1996. She received her training in London, England, before coming to the USA in 1993. She completed her training in the US at Georgetown University in Washington, DC. She has been Board Certified in psychiatry and has worked as the Director of Consult Psychiatry since 1997. She has worked in several areas of psychiatry and has focused on psychiatry in obese patients for the last six years. Varsha's area of expertise is obesity psychiatry. Dr. Vaidya founded and runs the obesity psychiatry program that includes bariatric surgery evaluation and as treatment of psychiatric illness in the obese. She directs the cognitive behavior therapy group, which specifically addresses binge eating, emotional eating, and weight regain after bariatric surgery in this population. In addition to several journal articles on bariatric psychiatry, Varsha published a book titled, "Health and Treatment Strategies in Obesity." She is an internationally-recognized expert on obesity and bariatric psychiatry, and has been an invited speaker at numerous conferences and hospitals. Varsha Vaidya is an Assistant Professor in Psychiatry and General Internal Medicine at Johns Hopkins University and School of Medicine. She is the Director of the Consultation Liaison Psychiatry Service at Johns Hopkins Bayview Medical Center. |
