The Johns Hopkins Metabolic Bone Center features a multidisciplinary team led by medical director, Deborah Sellmeyer, M.D.

Deborah Sellmeyer, M.D.

Deborah Sellmeyer, M.D., Medical Director
Associate Professor of Endocrinology
Medical Director, Metabolic Bone Center

Deborah Sellmeyer, M.D., medical director of the Johns Hopkins Metabolic Bone Center and associate professor of medicine at The Johns Hopkins University School of Medicine, is an internationally recognized expert in osteoporosis and other metabolic bone diseases. She previously was director of the University of California, San Francisco/Mt. Zion Osteoporosis Center.

With interests in endocrinology, osteoporosis, nutrition and all metabolic bone disorders, Dr. Sellmeyer enjoys caring for patients and takes pride in creating custom treatment plans to improve each person's bone health. She is board-certified in internal medicine and endocrinology/metabolism and currently conducting research on the role of nutrition and environmental factors in bone health.

Dr. Sellmeyer earned a medical degree at The Johns Hopkins University School of Medicine. She completed a fellowship in endocrinology, diabetes and metabolism at the University of California, San Francisco.

Michele Bellantoni, M.D.

Michele Bellantoni, M.D., an associate professor of medicine in the Division of Geriatric Medicine and Gerontology at The Johns Hopkins University School of Medicine, is associate director for post-acute and long-term care at Johns Hopkins Bayview Medical Center. She also serves as medical director of the Johns Hopkins Care Center.

Dr. Bellantoni's clinical interests focus on osteoporosis, geriatrics and using a holistic approach to osteoporosis management in older adults in outpatient settings. She also researches post-menopausal osteoporosis in elderly women and the use of heel ultrasounds as a screening test for osteoporosis.

After earning a B.A. in biochemistry at the University of Pennsylvania, Dr. Bellantoni completed medical training at The Johns Hopkins University School of Medicine, which included an internship and residency in internal medicine. She also completed two post-doctoral fellowships: one in geriatric medicine at The Johns Hopkins University School of Medicine and one in endocrinology research at the Gerontology Research Center, National Institute on Aging.

Suzanne Jan de Beur, M.D.

Suzanne Jan de Beur, M.D., an associate professor of medicine at The Johns Hopkins University School of Medicine, is director of the Division of Endocrinology at Johns Hopkins Bayview Medical Center.

Board-certified in internal medicine and endocrinology/ metabolism, Dr. Jan de Beur's clinical and research interests lie in bone and mineral metabolism, endocrinology, all metabolic bone disorders, osteoporosis, and calcium and phosphorus disorders. She also has published numerous articles and textbook chapters on topics such as hypocalcaemia, and bone and mineral metabolic disorders.

Dr. Jan de Beur earned a B.A. and a medical degree from Cornell University. She completed an internship and residency in internal medicine, as well as a fellowship in endocrinology and metabolism, at The Johns Hopkins University School of Medicine.

Simon Mears, M.D., Ph.D.

Assistant Professor of Endocrinology
Chief, Total Joint Arthroplasty and Trauma

Simon Mears, M.D., Ph.D., an assistant professor of orthopaedic surgery at The Johns Hopkins University School of Medicine, is chief of total joint arthroplasty and trauma at Johns Hopkins Bayview Medical Center. His clinical specialties include joint reconstruction, geriatric orthopaedics, hip and knee reconstruction, orthopaedic trauma, and minimally invasive hip and knee replacements. He also researches hip fractures, geriatric orthopaedics, osteo-fracture and sacroplasty.

Dr. Mears earned a B.S. from Pennsylvania State University, and medical degree and Ph.D. from the University of Pittsburgh School of Medicine. He completed an internship and residency in orthopaedic surgery at Johns Hopkins Medical Institutions.

Kendall Moseley, M.D.

Assistant Professor of Endocrinology

Kendall Moseley, M.D., is a faculty member of the Division of Endocrinology and the Division of Geriatric Medicine and Gerontology at Johns Hopkins Bayview.

Board-certified in internal medicine and endocrinology/ metabolism, Dr. Moseley practices general endocrinology with a focus on metabolic bone disease. She is actively engaged in research involving the relationship between type 2 diabetes, osteoporosis and aging.
