Prior to your visit, it’s important to check with your primary care physician or insurance company to see if you need to obtain a referral for a specialist visit or diagnostic testing.
Before your appointment, you will receive a confirmation letter with an arrival time, as well as two automated phone calls, to remind you of your appointment. If you are not able to keep your appointment, please call at least 24 hours in advance to reschedule or cancel.
Be sure to arrive for your appointment at the time listed on your confirmation letter. During the registration process, you will be asked to provide your insurance card and a referral for any type of testing you are scheduled to receive. If you do not have insurance and are a self-pay patient, please arrive 20 minutes prior to the time listed on your letter and report to the financial counseling office (located in BMO area) for clearance.
After the registration process is complete, a nurse will take your vital signs, including measurements of blood pressure, weight, heart rate and sometimes an EKG. You then will see your physician. Please be sure to bring a list of all the medications you are taking. If you have any medical records that are associated with care you have received at a hospital other than Johns Hopkins, it also would be helpful to bring a medical history.
