Physicians at Johns Hopkins Bayview have a special interest in managing patients with heart failure and those who have undergone cardiac transplantation. Our services build on the tradition established in 1983, when the Johns Hopkins Heart Transplant Program developed an innovative approach to treatment of congestive heart failure that, today, is reducing hospital admissions, improving the quality of life for patients and lowering mortality rates.
The former director of that program, Edward Kasper, M.D., FACC, now is chief of cardiology at Johns Hopkins Bayview. He and his team of specialists use an aggressive medical approach, combined with intensive education and lifestyle counseling, to help patients achieve the best possible outcomes. The program also is proactive in maintaining and stabilizing patients who are awaiting heart transplantation.
