The Medical Psychiatry Program provides comprehensive, interdisciplinary team-based inpatient care to older adults with complex medical needs as well as psychiatric conditions or behavioral symptoms. Daily evaluation in an inpatient setting is necessary.

Care Team
An interdisciplinary medical and psychiatric team provide unique care for patients, aged 55 and older, with a medical condition(s) (primary) such as diabetes, dementia, delirium, heart disease or renal disease, as well as a co-existing mental health need (secondary), such as depression, cognitive decline, anxiety, irritability and agitation, hallucinations or anorexia.
The team includes:
- Medical staff (physicians, physician assistants and nurse practitioners)
- Psychiatry staff
- Nurses
- Rehabilitation therapists (physical, occupational and speech)
- Social workers/case managers
- Recreation therapists
- Clinical nutritionists
- Respiratory therapists
- Clergy
- Consultants, as appropriate
Admission Criteria
- Medical diagnosis and corresponding treatment plan that can not be managed in a less intensive inpatient or outpatient setting (primary)
- Psychiatric diagnosis or behavioral condition that can not be managed in a less intensive inpatient or outpatient setting
- Chronic hospital level of care needed to safely and effectively titrate medications and behavioral care plan
- Financial clearance
Exclusion Criteria
- Medical or psychiatric condition that requires inpatient acute hospital care
- Nursing services outside of scope of services
- Medical or psychiatric condition for which on site continuous physician services are needed
- Continuous one-on-one observation
