Community Outreach

Whether it’s providing health care services via a mobile medical unit, educating school children about burn prevention, providing home visits to elderly patients or assisting expectant mothers with prenatal care, Johns Hopkins Bayview has always taken pride in its involvement with the community. Many of these programs would not be possible without the Johns Hopkins Bayview Fund, a large supporter of the services and wellness initiatives we provide to our neighbors in need. The Medical Center deeply appreciates the continuing financial support received from individuals, corporations, small businesses, organizations and foundations that support these worthwhile efforts.

Here is just a sampling of some of the ways we use philanthropic support to enhance our outreach efforts:

Community Care-A-Van – Read our program profile.

The Johns Hopkins Bayview Care-A-Van stands for service, excellence and community. Established in1999 with philanthropic funds, the Care-A-Van functions as a clinic on wheels and provides comprehensive care, prevention, treatment and education to women, children and families living on the fringe of the health care system.

Elder House Call – Meet one of our donors.

Operated in partnership with the Johns Hopkins Home Care Group, this program provides regular physician house calls, skilled nursing and rehabilitative therapy services to approximately 200 home-bound seniors in southeast Baltimore city and county.

Kiwanis Community Burn Prevention Program

A major gift from the Kiwanis Club of East Baltimore provides funding for a school-based burn prevention education program, targeting elementary school children. A professional firefighter delivers age-appropriate burn prevention messages to the classroom.

Safe Babies Program

This program provides a kit complete with a smoke detector, baby bath thermometer, outlet covers, other materials and educational information to each new mother who delivers her baby at Johns Hopkins Bayview, upon their discharge from the Medical Center. This program helps new parents learn to prevent burn injuries for their new baby. Current funding comes from the Johns Hopkins Burn Center Community Fund, Metropolitan Firefighters Burn Center Fund and the Kiwanis of East Baltimore.
