Emergency Department

The Johns Hopkins Bayview Medical Center is designated as an area-wide trauma center staffed by physicians, nurses, physician assistants and other health care professionals who are trained and certified in emergency care. The emergency department provides care 24 hours a day.

Important Road Closure and Emergency Entrance Information

Important changes are taking place on the Johns Hopkins Bayview campus, beginning Sunday, April 1, to prepare for the construction of the new emergency department:

Campus Map

  • Nathan Shock Drive will be closed from Bayview Boulevard to Bioscience Drive.

  • MTA bus stops will be closed on or about Friday, March 30, at the blue awning (BMO entrance) and on Nathan Shock Drive, by the emergency department. Bus 22 and Bus 30 will be rerouted with stops at Bayview Circle. Please plan according, and allow extra time to travel to and from campus.

  • The emergency department entrance will be relocated to the mid-campus parking lot, with access for emergency vehicles and patient drop-off on Hopkins Bayview Circle. The ED entrance on Nathan Shock Drive will be permanently closed on this date.

We appreciate your cooperation and understanding as we expand the emergency department to help improve patient flow and decrease patient wait times.
