When you are tense, it is more difficult to breathe and the breathing process uses more energy. By relaxing, breathing becomes easier. Try to use relaxation techniques daily. Here is one example of a relaxation technique:
Begin at your head.
Think about how the muscles feel in your forehead.
Take a deep breath in, tightening the muscles in your forehead while doing so.
Start to exhale through pursed-lips.
Relax and let go of the muscles in your forehead.
Repeat this exercise with different parts of your body, such as your:
jaw
neck
shoulders
arms
hands
stomach
buttocks
thighs
ankles
feet
