Baltimore Regional Burn Center The State of Maryland's only regionally designated center for burn treatment. It provides comprehensive acute and rehabilitation services, including reconstructive surgery for adults and children. The Center for Burn Reconstruction includes reconstructive surgery, physical and occupational therapy, psychological and social work services. Patients learn cosmetic techniques to minimize the appearance of burn scarring and other disfiguring conditions. Motility and Digestive Disorders Internationally acclaimed for research and treatment, the Marvin M. Schuster Center for Motility and Digestive Disorders is one of the nation's most comprehensive facilities to diagnose, monitor and treat people with conditions such as irritable bowel syndrome, fecal incontinence, reflux disease and chronic intestinal pseudo-obstruction. The center also has a fully equipped endoscopy suite and an eight-bed recovery room. Geriatric Medicine The Johns Hopkins Geriatrics Center features chronic, skilled and rehabilitative care and complementary outpatient programs. Programs of excellence in geriatrics include an Osteoporosis Center for the evaluation and management of osteoporosis and other metabolic bone disorders; a Continence Clinic to evaluate and treat people with urinary incontinence; and a Geriatric Assessment Program, which provides a comprehensive examination to help determine an older adult's special health needs, including medical illness, medication problems, physical limitations and social and psychological problems. Neurology Addresses disorders of the nervous system. Physician consultations are available for conditions such as epilepsy, stroke, movement disorders, geriatric neurology and memory disorders. Neurosurgery Offers a range of modern neurosurgical services in state-of-the-art microsurgical facilities. Specialties include treatment and diagnosis of brain tumors and spinal procedures, including bracing unstable spines. In addition, the unit cares for patients affected by severe neurological disorders and provides the most up-to-date care to patients immediately following neurosurgery or for head and neck injuries, seizures and stroke. A program to perform MRI-guided stereotactic biopsy for deep lesions of the brain has also been developed, expanding the existing CT stereotactic-guided biopsy program. Urology Provides a range of inpatient and outpatient treatment for men, women and children. Treatment and surgical intervention are offered for prostate and male genital problems, impotence, incontinence and urinary tract infection. The department also offers new minimally invasive surgical technology and diagnostic evaluation, and specializes in the treatment and prevention of kidney stones.
