Cardiology Provides a range of comprehensive diagnostic procedures for adult and pediatric heart patients, including cardiac outpatient services and pacemaker follow-up. It also offers a cardiac rehabilitation and prevention program. (Division of Cardiology) Center for Chemical Dependence One of America's leading centers in the treatment and study of addictive diseases. The adult detoxification program provides a voluntary, short-term hospital stay in a supportive, medically supervised environment that helps individuals break the chain of chemical dependency. Chronic Pain Clinic Offers a multidisciplinary treatment program for people with chronic pain. Dermatology Provides diagnosis and medical and surgical treatment for diseases of the skin, hair, nails and mucous membranes. Endocrinology Diagnoses, evaluates and treats patients with endocrine and metabolic disorders, such as over-and under-active thyroid glands, cholesterol abnormalities, obesity and diabetes. Counseling is available with a dietitian to help customize a diet plan to meet special needs. Hematology and Cancer Provides consultation and treatment for blood disorders and cancer by using chemotherapy, radiation therapy and surgery. Imaging Center Offers advanced imaging services, including CT scan, MRI, ultrasound, angiography and mammography, as well as more routine radiographic examinations for both inpatients and outpatients. (Imaging Department) Mental Health Services Offers a variety of mental health services and programs for people with long-term mental illness, family problems, anxiety or depression, as well as for children and adolescents who have attention difficulties, learning problems, depression, impulsive / aggressive behavior and problems with school or social adjustment. Obstetrics/Gynecology Offers routine and high-risk obstetrical care, gynecological examinations, family planning and comprehensive treatment of all gynecological disorders. Hopkins Bayview also has a Neonatal Intensive Care Unit (NICU), which provides outstanding care for premature infants or those who require special medical attention. It is the only NICU in the area to offer high-frequency ventilation. Specialized services include: cataract surgery, contact lens fitting, corneal diseases and transplantation, glaucoma surgery, hereditary eye diseases treatment, laser surgery, low-vision service, pediatric ophthalmology, refractive surgery, strabismus surgery and treatment of retinal diseases. Diabetic eye disease and vision problems resulting from the central nervous system are also areas of expertise. Orthopaedics Deals with the prevention, diagnosis and treatment of muscle and bone disorders, including fractures, arthritis, nerve entrapments, and developmental problems of adults and children. Specialty interests include sports medicine, total joint replacements, trauma, and foot and ankle problems. (Department of Orthopaedic Surgery) Otolaryngology - Head & Neck Surgery Provides services related to the head and neck, including conditions of the nose, mouth, throat, ears and balance. Special areas of interest include hearing tests and rehabilitation, evaluation, treatment for tumors of the head and neck, problems with the nose, sense of smell, and sinuses and facial plastic surgery. Pediatrics Offers general inpatient, ambulatory and emergency room services to infants, children and adolescents from birth through age 20. Specialty care is available for infants with possible developmental problems, adolescents who use alcohol and drugs, and infants exposed prenatally to alcohol and drugs. (Department of Pediatrics) Plastic & Reconstructive Surgery Provides reconstructive, aesthetic and hand surgery, with special programs in burn and breast reconstruction. (Plastic and Reconstructive Surgery) Podiatry Diagnoses and treats diseases, injuries and defects of the foot. An area of special emphasis is the diabetic foot. Pulmonary Medicine Located in the modern Asthma & Allergy Center, the pulmonary medicine physicians diagnose and treat patients with acute and chronic lung disorders. Rehabilitation Services Dedicated to restoring and enhancing the quality of life of people with spinal cord injury, brain injury, stroke, physical illness and degenerative diseases so they can gain independence in their everyday activities. It includes physical therapy, occupational therapy and speech-language pathology. Renal Medicine Houses the largest hospital-based comprehensive treatment center for end-stage renal disease in Maryland. The center features 32 licensed dialysis stations. Outpatient and home dialysis are available for both hemodialysis and peritoneal dialysis, as well as diagnosis and treatment of kidney disorders. Rheumatology Diagnoses and manages musculoskeletal problems, arthritis and connective tissue disease on an outpatient basis. The scleroderma center treats patients with scleroderma, Raynaud's Phenomenon and other related skin disorders. Sleep Disorders Offers a multidisciplinary approach to evaluating and treating sleeping and waking problems. It is directed by the medical staffs of the pulmonary medicine, neurology and psychiatry departments, in conjunction with cardiologists, otolaryngologists and urologists. Surgery Provides a full range of outpatient and inpatient services in all of the surgical areas. Pediatric patients are evaluated in this department and treated either at Hopkins Bayview or at the Children's Center of The Johns Hopkins Hospital. There is a special interest in the surgical problems of the elderly. (Section of Surgical Sciences) Weight Management Center Helps participants achieve a reasonable, healthy weight using supervised treatment plans customized to the needs of the individual patient.
