Johns Hopkins Bayview Stroke Center

Comprehensive Care, Treatment and Rehabilitation

The Johns Hopkins Bayview Stroke Center provides comprehensive care and treatment for the following conditions:

  • Acute Stroke, Hemorrhagic and Ischemic
  • Transient Ischemic Attacks
  • Vasculitis
  • Carotid and Vertebral Dissection
  • Subarachnoid Hemorrhage
     

The Johns Hopkins Bayview Acute Stroke team, led by Dr. Rafael H. Llinas with in-house Johns Hopkins Neurology residents and a multidisciplinary medical team, provides the following specialized services and treatments:

  • Intra-arterial thrombolysis, 3-6 hours in anterior circulation, 24 hours in posterior circulation
  • Intravenous rt-PA 11 percent of patients within time frame treated
  • Vascular neurosurgery for treatment of AVM, aneurysms, carotid stenosis
  • Dedicated neuro-critical unit with 8 beds staffed by neuro-intensivists
  • Dedicated 6 bed IMC for acute and sub-acute stroke
  • Dedicated neuroscience unit with neuro-trained nurses
  • Gamma Knife treatment for AVMs and vascular malformations
  • Vasculitis Center referrals for treatment options
      

The Terrace Rehabilitation Unit is a 26-bed unit that provides comprehensive inpatient rehabilitation as well as skilled rehabilitation care. The unit is located in the Johns Hopkins Bayview Care Center, which is accredited by the Joint Commission, as well as the Commission on Accreditation of Rehabilitation Facilities (CARF). CARF accreditation has been awarded to the Care Center for its inpatient rehabilitation programs - adults and stroke specialty program.

  • 24 hour MRI with diffusion and perfusion imaging
  • MRI spectroscopy
  • CT angiography of head and neck.
  • CT angiography of heart and coronary vessels
  • Conventional 4-vessel angiography
  • Carotid duplex studies
  • Transcranial doppler studies
  • SPECT
