September 25, 2006 Johns Hopkins Bayview Medical Center and The Johns Hopkins University School of Medicine have appointed Brian R. Matlaga, M.D., assistant professor of urology, and director of the stone disease program at Hopkins Bayview.
Dr. Matlaga earned a medical degree, as well as a master of public health in health systems management, at Tulane University School of Medicine and School of Public Health and Tropical Medicine, respectively. He completed an internship in general surgery and a residency in urology at Wake Forest University School of Medicine. He also completed a fellowship in endo-urology and minimally-invasive surgery at Indiana University School of Medicine. During his fellowship, Dr. Matlaga was designated an American Foundation for Urologic Disease Research Scholar, and was named Outstanding Research Scholar in recognition of his work involving the treatment of patients with stone disease. Dr. Matlaga has strong clinical interests in the minimally-invasive treatment of patients with metabolic stone disease, including percutaneous nephro-lithotomy, ureteroscopy and shock wave lithotripsy. In addition, Dr. Matlaga has an interest in the holmium laser enucleation of the prostate (HoLEP), a minimally invasive laser therapy for men with benign prostatic enlargement. |
