(February 23, 2005)The U.S. Department of Homeland Security and the Office of Domestic Preparedness, both part of the Federal Emergency Management Agency (FEMA), have awarded over $7,400 to the Senior Fire Safety & Burn Prevention Program, coordinated by Carrie Cox, RN, MSN, at Hopkins Bayview's Regional Burn Center. The Senior Fire Safety & Burn Prevention Program entails general burn and prevention education at senior centers throughout Maryland. The money awarded is part of the national Assistance to Firefighters Program -- Fire Prevention and Safety grants, which are awarded to national, regional, state, local or community organizations, recognizing experience and expertise in fire prevention or safety programs and activities.
