The Maryland Chapter of the American College of Physicians (ACP) has announced the winners of their 2007 Chapter Awards. Out of four award recipients, two are Johns Hopkins Bayview faculty.
Roy C. Ziegelstein, M.D., FACP, director of the residency program at Johns Hopkins Bayview and professor of medicine, has been recognized through his commitment to teaching excellence with the distinguished Theodore E. Woodward award.
Dr. Ziegelstein, an investigator, lecturer and bedside teacher, has widely influenced the medical educations of students, residents, fellows and attendings. His list of honors confirms his broad excellence in medical education. In fact, he is the only member of the Hopkins faculty to receive teaching awards from the house staff at both Johns Hopkins Hospital and Johns Hopkins Bayview. He also was selected by the graduating medical students of 2006 as “Grand Marshall” over the last four years.
The ACP states, “Dr. Ziegelstein has demonstrated a commitment to teaching excellence that captures the spirit and example of our legendary Dr. Theodore E. Woodward.”
Linda P. Fried, M.D., MPH, has been selected as the 2007 Mary Betty Stevens Award recipient. Dr. Fried is a professor of medicine at The Johns Hopkins University School of Medicine as well as a professor at the University’s Schools of Public Health and Nursing.
In her role as director of the Johns Hopkins Center on Aging and Health as well as director of the University’s Division of Geriatric Medicine and Gerontology, Dr. Fried performs extensive clinical research. She also has implemented several community outreach programs including one that places older adults into public Baltimore City elementary schools to act as “grandparent mentors” of troubled children.
As Dr. Mary Betty Stevens was especially memorialized by the ACP for her excellence clinical research, she would indeed be proud of the outstanding work Dr. Fried has done.
Congratulations Drs. Ziegelstein and Fried on your prestigious accomplishments!
