Johns Hopkins Bayview Medical Center welcomes Charles Hesdorffer, M.D., as chief of the Division of Hematology. Dr. Hesdorffer was previously director of clinical hematology for The Johns Hopkins Hospital.
Dr. Hesdorffer received his MBBCh and Master of Medicine degrees from the University of the Witwatersrand in Johannesburg, South Africa. He completed his fellowship in hematology and oncology at the College of Physicians and Surgeons of Columbia University in New York. Before coming to Johns Hopkins, Dr. Hesdorffer held positions at New York-Presbyterian Hospital in New York City and Hackensack University Medical Center in New Jersey.
Board-certified in both internal medicine and medical oncology, Dr. Hesdorffer has been published in numerous journals and books, such as the Journal of Clinical Oncology and High-Dose Cancer Therapy.
He specializes in blood abnormalities, both benign and malignant, and has a special interest in chronic lymphocytic leukemia (CLL), lymphoma and amyloidosis, which involves the accumulation of amyloid protein in various organs.
