General Obstetrics

Expecting a child is a long journey, full of changes, surprises and miracles. The Department of Obstetrics at Johns Hopkins Bayview is based on a comprehensive program of care, from conception through delivery and beyond.

An expert team, made up of dedicated physicians, certified nurses and mid-wives, and other health care professionals, carries mothers through their first trimesters to the journey home with their new babies. Specialized obstetrical services also are available, including:

To prepare for your new baby's arrival, Johns Hopkins Bayview offers educational programs with classes devoted to childbirth preparation, parenting and baby safety. Classes are even offered for the big brother or big sister (sibling preparation). A scheduled tour of the birthing facility and opportunity to meet the staff also are available.

High-risk expectant mothers are carefully monitored during pregnancy and delivery to minimize complications. The comprehensive Fetal Assessment Center at Johns Hopkins Bayview offers the latest in high-risk testing and monitoring.
