Seminars

Free health education seminars are available featuring Johns Hopkins medical experts who present the latest information on a variety of health topics and answer questions. These seminars are offered at locations throughout the Baltimore area, including Johns Hopkins Bayview Medical Center, Johns Hopkins at Green Spring Station and Goucher College.

Because We Care For Our Kids: A Child Mental Health Forum

A free conference to learn about recognizing child mental health disorders, what they mean and the medications prescribed. Features keynote speaker, Debbie Phelps, Baltimore County Public Schools principal and proud mother of three children, including 14-time Gold Medalist Michael Phelps. In addition, Joyce Harrison, M.D., director of preschool clinical programs at the Community Psychiatry Program at Johns Hopkins Bayview, will speak about “Recognizing Child Mental Health Disorders: Key Warning Signs and Next Steps for Families and Educators.”

Three breakout sessions will be offered at the time of registration.

Back and Neck Pain

Are you tired of living with back and neck pain? These complex sources of pain are often related to spine disorders and problems, such as degenerative disc disease, cervical or lumbar disc herniations, spinal deformity, infection and tumors, and vertebral compression fractures.

Varicose Vein Screening

Do you have painful varicose veins? Varicose veins are not always a cosmetic issue. If left untreated, they can result in more serious problems. However, there is a solution. The VNUS® Closure® procedure is a clinically proven and minimally invasive outpatient procedure that treats varicose veins and their underlying cause, venous reflux.

Join Johns Hopkins vascular surgeon Jennifer Heller, M.D., FACS, to learn more about varicose veins, the VNUS® Closure® procedure and other available treatment options at a free screening.

Patient Information Sessions

Childbirth Preparation
This course provides expectant mothers and their labor coaches in-depth instruction on labor, delivery, pain control and other topics related to the birth experience. Classes are led by a certified childbirth educator.

Six consecutive Mondays
7 to 9 p.m.

One Saturday and Sunday per month

Breastfeeding Class
Learn the benefits of breastfeeding, behaviors of a normal newborn, how to pump and store breast milk, and how medications and contraceptives affect breastfeeding
