- Clinical - arterial aneurysms, carotid artery disease, mesenteric ischemia, renal artery stenosis, dialysis access, peripheral artery disease and venous disease, with an emphasis on minimally invasive treatments
- Research - developing a laboratory assay for screening of abdominal aortic aneurysms and analyzing large data sources as a method to improve surgical outcomes
Biography
Nancy Harthun, M.D., MS, FACS, RVT, RPVI, visiting associate professor of surgery, completed general and vascular surgical training at the University of Virginia. After completing her training, she remained there and served as director of endovascular surgery, the non-invasive laboratory and the outpatient cardiovascular surgery clinics. She completed a fellowship in endovascular surgery at the Cleveland Clinic Foundation.
Dr. Harthun is a distinguished fellow of the Society of Vascular Surgery and a recipient of the S. Timothy String Traveling Fellowship awarded by the Southern Association of Vascular Surgery. The Association of Women Surgeons awarded her with a visiting professorship. She also has served as the President of the Virginia Vascular Society, the Muller-Jones Surgical Society, and the Virginia Chapter of the Association of Women Surgeons. She is on the editorial staff of the Journal Gender Medicine and serves on a study section for the National Institutes of Health. She is committed to improving surgical education for medical students and residents.
