Magnuson, M.D., FACS, director of the Johns Hopkins Center for Bariatric Surgery, is an associate professor of surgery at The Johns Hopkins University School of Medicine and chief of general surgery at the Johns Hopkins Bayview Medical Center. After earning his medical degree at the Vanderbilt University Medical Center, Magnuson completed surgical training at The Johns Hopkins Hospital, including specialty training in gastrointestinal surgery. He also completed a research fellowship investigating issues related to gall stone pathogenesis and biliary tract disease. Magnuson specializes in gastrointenstinal surgery, including surgeries of the stomach, gall bladder, pancreas and bowel, and has a special interest in bariatric surgery. He established the Johns Hopkins Center for Bariatric Surgery in 1997 which, in 2006, was named a Center of Excellence by the American Society for Bariatric Surgery. |
